Shilo’s Vanity

Bøgelund Studio

Photography: Me

Crafted for Brisbane-based fashion designer and artist Shilo Englebrecht, this custom vanity is inspired by Copenhagen cabinet making firm Garde Hvalsøe. The extensive use of expressed finger-joints are a nod to traditional craftsmanship while incorporating modern machinery and methods and the use of tropical and native timbers give a particularly Australian flavour to this piece. The striking darkness of the exterior casework is achieved by ebonising Tasmanian Oak, an entirely natural process that brings out the tannins found in this species of timber.
